Ellen

Bear with me. I’m writing with a migraine.

today i went to a taping of the Ellen Degeneres show. I was feeling a little out of it all day, as i didn’t get much sleep last night and I had some serious cramps today. Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable. imagine how i feel.

Anyway. My friend and I had standby tickets, which mean we had to come early, get our numbers then come back at 2PM to check in and wait some more. We finally just made the cut (my friend was the last ‘standby’ to make it in) and got ushered to our separate seats at almost 3 something.

Before Ellen comes out, they pump up the audience by having a big old dance party. They just play music and get us all dancing at our seats. Usually, they will pick an audience member or two to go down to the stage and dance in front of everyone else. The first person chosen today? Yours truly. I got down with my bad self to Destiny’s Child’s “Jumpin’”. It was pretty hot. Then I got my “I danced with Ellen” T-shirt. I already have one in my closet. I’m THAT awesome as a dancer. It was not my first time.

The show was pretty good. Nothing too crazy or hilarious happened. One lady in the audience got a glass of scotch for her birthday. I wished it were my birthday. The guests we got to see included Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, the women who wrote “Skinny Bitch” and the follow-up recipe book “Skinny Bitch in the Kitch”. We all got copies of both books. They gave us vegan chocolate chip cookies. I am a big chocolate chip cookie connoisseur. I’m also the farthest thing from a vegan you could find. I have to admit. They were pretty delicious. Since I have the recipe now, I’ll give them a try. We also got a performance by and an interview with Gavin Rossdale. The song was ok, but he was so pretty it didn’t matter.

Then a surprise guest. Usher. He didn’t sing, just performed. Fine by me. We all got his new CD. Actually, his new CD hasn’t ‘dropped’ just yet, so we will get it in the mail in about 8 weeks. I’m holding my breath. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Usher. Man can dance, that’s for sure.

We also had to pretend that Hillary Duff was going to be there. She wasn’t. Also, fine by me. She will be on the episode when it airs, she just wasn’t there today to film it.

An audience member got to play a game that was basically “Grab that dough!” from the Golden Girls. Ellen had another name for it. I don’t remember.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience. The episode will air next Friday, May 23. Look for the crazy awesome dancer in the purple top.
